The Solution

Eventually there has to be a solution. SCHCR has spent over six years researching and defining the problem. Our solution and approach cannot be uncomplicated, because the problem is not simple. A simple solution could be offered if there were only one problem and only one contributor. Many have attempted to put forth a view that states that the insurance companies are solely to blame for the problem. Their simple solution is to eliminate insurance companies and turn the problem over to the government. This approach trivializes the problem and masks the fact that the government played a very big role in creating the problem in the first place. Having said that, SCHCR does not point a single finger at the government but at several vocations and groups of individual cost drivers that, after a very long period of time, have created the volcano that is now erupting.
One of the missing equations, in this search for a cure to the healthcare cost crisis, is an unbiased look into the delivery system. This is where the initial cost is incurred and priced. This is where the problem begins. Most contemporary solutions fast-forward to the point that the claim is submitted to the insurance company and begin the rein of terror on the "evil" insurance company whose thirst for profits is the sole driver of the cost crisis bus. Their solution always centers around financing, or coming up with more money to pay for a broken system. At the end of the day, together, financing and delivery have worked in concert to push access of healthcare to the brink of collapse. To offer a solution, financing and delivery must be given an equal stage on which to perform a delicate dance of reversal. The 800 pound gorilla, the government, must find its proper place in this debate and ultimately in the solution. That position must be dictated by common sense and the private markets that will ultimately fix the problem. Currently, the government is doing all the driving and asserting that it needs to be at the front; on a white horse. That is about to change. Look through our proposal. Disagree with it; but document your disagreement. SCHCR is not interested in undocumented opinion. Neither should you.
